When she started having mental health struggles, Chelsea reached out for help and found a therapist who was the right fit.
Chelsea’s Story Transcript
My name is Chelsea Hinton. I live in Columbia, here in Tennessee. I’ve been in therapy for a little while, and I am really passionate about mental health and helping people find the help they need.
At the time, I had been looking for a new therapist. I tried doing things on my own for a little bit, which went okay, and then I started really struggling again. I was looking up therapists in the area, and that’s when I came across Insight. I thought, “Okay, this will be good.” I really liked the Christian aspect of the counseling because that helped, being a Christian myself. I know that in the church, there’s a lot of stigma about mental health, so it really helped that I was able to talk about that with the therapist.
I really felt that connection. It’s a relationship unlike any other, but I really felt like you have to have that click with your therapist, and I really felt that we connected good. I really felt like they cared and didn’t just leave me hanging.
Probably about a couple of months into seeing a therapist at Insight, I had surgery. For a couple of weeks, I did telehealth. It was really good to stay at my house and be able to recover from the surgery. I would just notify my counselor, “Hey, I’m not feeling well today, but I still want to do counseling. Can we switch to telehealth?” I would let them know how I was doing mentally, and they were really flexible with that. Just really knowing that they care made a big difference.
I’ve been in a really good place mentally for a while now, and I’ve never really had that, so it feels really good to be in a good position, mentally. I just notice I’m happier. I’m back in school, which was always a big goal for me. It was really good. I’m just seeing a lot of benefits in myself mentally and progress in school and stuff.
For somebody who’s struggling like I was, I would just give them encouragement to either find a therapist if they didn’t have one, or similar to me, if you don’t really feel that connection or comfortable talking to them, just find somebody that you are comfortable with because that makes a big difference.
