August is National Make-A-Will Month

“No one goes on, but what we leave behind keeps us alive for someone else.” — Adam Silvera

Did you know August is National Make-A-Will Month? Why is this important?

An often-quoted study by Caring.com reveals only about 32% of Americans say they actually have a will. National Make-A-Will Month is an opportunity to consider the importance of creating or updating a will.

Why do you want to create or update your will? There are many reasons, among them:

  1. A will is an important legal document that ensures your estate is distributed according to YOUR instructions.
  2. It provides peace of mind for your family. Your will is their roadmap to honoring your wishes.
  3. A will allows you to leave a legacy to charities of your choice.

Remembering a favorite charity in your estate plans is one of the easiest ways to ensure the organization receives your support after you are gone.

Did you know, 64% of those who have included charities in their wills have not told those charities that they’ve done so? While the desire for privacy is understandable, know that charities you support want to thank you for this generous act.

Last year, Insight received a bequest from a long-time supporter. Because we didn’t know we were included in his estate plans, we were unable to let him know how much this generosity means to us! If you have included Insight in your will, I hope you’ll let us know. We will not publish your name in our Visionary Society of planned givers without your permission.

Once you are ready to discuss your bequest benefiting Insight Counseling Centers, please reach out to me at pam@insightcenters.org or 615-383-2115, ext 108.
