Carol Smith is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and serves as Insight Counseling Centers’ Director of Clinical Services & Training. She sees clients at our offices in Franklin and Brentwood.

These are some of the desires that sustain Carol in the ministry of pastoral counseling as she seeks to meet clients and students where they are and walk with them on their journey toward wholeness. Acceptance, encouragement, exhortation and faith are gifts she will offer as she joins you in the process of finding your way through your current experience.

In her spare time, Carol enjoys family and friends, traveling, movies, gardening, choir, and cooking.

Workshops

Caregiving: Preparing for Aging

Most families meet the major life changes of graduations, weddings, and births with planning and flexibility. Preparing for the changes we meet in the aging process, however, is often not on our radar screens. How will we know when our parents or grandparents need help managing their lives? This workshop is designed to provide information and resources to prepare families for that inevitability.

Length: 1–2 hours

Fireproof Your Marriage

A marriage enrichment group based on the movie, Fireproof. This study utilizes video clips from Fireproof along with the study of key scripture passages to stimulate small group discussion as well as individual and couple devotionals. Topics covered in the course include: appreciating the differences between spouses, loving our spouse even when they don’t respond, the nature of the marriage covenant, breaking free from temptations that can destroy marriage, offering and receiving forgiveness, and the pattern of unconditional love.

Length: Six 1 to 1 1/2 hr sessions or Negotiable

1-2-3 Magic

Do you find yourself embarrassed by your child’s obnoxious behavior? Frustrated by his or her taking forever to finish a task or not taking the initiative to do the task at all? This seminar will introduce participants to the interventions taught in 1-2-3 Magic. This parenting book by Thomas Phelan offers practical guidance on stopping obnoxious behavior and starting desired behavior. Participants will began developing a behavior plan for their child(ren).

Length: One 1-1/2 hour session

Size Limit: Unlimited

Before Marriage: A Marital Preparation Group

Group interactions focus on the skills that predict successful marriages. One additional private couple session will guide couples to apply this strength-based approach to their specific circumstances. The PREPARE relationship inventory will be utilized.

Topics include:

  • communication skills,
  • conflict resolution,
  • bringing our family heritage into our marriage,
  • playing to our strengths and enjoying the differences,
  • the nature and process of oneness,
  • and planning for the relationship’s future.

This course will qualify couples for the reduced marriage license fee in Tennessee.

Length: Minimum of 5 contact hours; timing structure negotiable

Size Limit: 5-10 couples
