Trauma: The Pain We Still Carry

Reflections of a Black Therapist

A trauma event is one that the mind, body, and/or soul carries and translates into defense mechanisms. Those mechanisms can include defenses such as Repression, Internalization, Projection, Rationalization, and Denial. Monét C. Shell, therapist at Insight Counseling Centers, explores the types of traumas presented by Black clients in therapy during this online presentation.

Presenter: Monét C. Shell practices marriage and family therapy at Insight Counseling Centers and sees clients through telehealth. She holds a Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy from Lipscomb University and specializes in helping clients with anxiety and depression, conflict management, relationship issues, core identity and culture identity issues, among others. Through therapy she equips clients with tools that give their unspoken emotions and desires a voice.
