Karen Potratz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who coordinates Insight Counseling Centers’ office in Murfreesboro. Karen enjoys working with groups and teaching people about mental illness and how to improve life’s experience. She is passionate about marriage and family and is committed to helping people work on improving these vital relationships. Karen is an Internal Family Systems Therapist (Level Two Training) and has a broad range of interests and skills for working with emotional issues and improving mental health.

In her free time, Karen enjoys hiking, cooking, and recreational sports and activity.

Before Saying I Do: Prepare for Marriage

Each couple takes an inventory that reveals good information and offers insight into their relationships. This group follows the Prepare and Enrich program, developed material to enhance a relationship in the area of their strengths and explores areas that can benefit from growth.

Length: Four 1 1/2 hour sessions or Negotiable

Enter the Realm of the Unknown

The grief experience in the critical stages can feel unreal and people may think they are “going crazy”. Grief is so common it can catch us unaware by its intensity and power to change the life we know and the world we live in. Learning through education and developing coping strategies can offer the help needed to walk through this part of life.

The Language of Love: Is it Spoken in our Marriages?

Referred to by lay persons and professionals alike, this group follows Dr. Gary Chapman’s The Five Love Languages. This is an opportunity to take the inventory and explore what it means to speak the language your partner understands. We will also discuss the effects of ignoring these communication mile markers and consider how this can erode the foundation of genuine love between persons.

ADHD: What Good is it?

Reframing perspectives is a broadly accepted strategy that affects our thinking and helps us cope. Living with ADHD can be such a negative script, and looking at the alternative thoughts lined up with the characteristics will give us hope and help us breathe in the midst of these unique challenges.

Self Critic or Self Esteemed?

We can be our own worst enemy when it comes to criticism. Some understand this as a necessary evil and are motivated by these internal messages. However, our self esteem can be shredded by our expectations and self perceptions. This workshop is a brief consideration of the self critic and offers opportunities to challenge ourselves and explore personal strengths.

De-Stress the Holidays

De-stress the Holidays by taking a look at stress and how it affects the body. Explore new ways to manage it through prayer and meditation. This includes an opportunity to experience an exercise in visualization. Also, take a look at family dynamics and consider some ways to survive family relationships. Holidays are stressful. This class will offer tips on how to decrease demands and find more peace and joy during the holiday season.
